Essential Oil Rituals for Energy Healing

Many ancient healing traditions teach that everything is energy—including our thoughts, emotions, and physical bodies.
As a nurse, health coach, and lover of all things plant-based, I’ve spent years exploring the many ways our bodies heal. While nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress management are foundational pillars of health, there is another aspect of wellness that many cultures have recognized for thousands of years: energy.
Morning Energy Ritual
Oils: Wild Orange, Peppermint, Lemon
- Place a drop of oil in your palms and rub them together.
- Cup your hands over your nose and take three slow breaths.
- As you inhale, imagine fresh energy filling your body.
- As you exhale, release any heaviness or worry.
Set an intention for the day:
“Today I choose vitality, clarity, and purpose.”
Apply the oil to your wrists, neck, or the soles of your feet.
I also keep a bottle of peppermint or Eucalyptus oil in the shower. A few drops under running warm water as a steamer is a great way to open airways and start the day.
Heart Opening Ritual
Oils: Rose, Geranium, Jasmine, or Lavender
- Place one hand over your heart and one over your abdomen.
- Apply a drop of oil to your heart center and breathe deeply for several minutes.
- Reflect on three things you are grateful for.
- Imagine your heart radiating warmth and compassion with each breath.
Affirmation:
“My heart is open to giving and receiving love.”
Some interesting information I recently learned about rose oil is that it has been shown to increase gray matter in the brain. This is not just anecdotal; it is shown on MRI. You can read more about the study here.
Full Moon Ritual
The energy of the full moon is something I have contemplated for years.
When working as a nurse, the emergency room always seemed busier and crazier on a full moon. The Labor and Delivery nurses would swear more babies were born on a full moon, so as someone who has come to believe in energies, I have come to work with that energy in my life.
Oils: Frankincense, Cypress, Lavender
- Write down thoughts, habits, emotions, or beliefs you are ready to release.
- Diffuse your chosen oils while sitting quietly.
- Read your list aloud and acknowledge what no longer serves you.
- Safely burn or tear up the paper as a symbolic act of release.
End with:
“I release what is complete and create space for new possibilities.”
Grounding Foot Massage Ritual
These days, many of us spend the majority of our time indoors, surrounded by technology, artificial lighting, and constant stimulation.
Grounding, sometimes called “earthing,” is a simple wellness ritual that invites us to reconnect with the natural world by making direct contact with the earth’s surface.
It may not always be convenient to get outside barefoot; using wood oils can help us “ground” without actually stepping outside.
Oils: Vetiver, Cedarwood, Frankincense
- Mix essential oils with a carrier oil and massage into the soles of your feet.
- Pay special attention to the center of the foot (Kidney 1 point), often associated in TSTs with nurturing what helps us thrive.
