The Importance of Caring for Your Lymph System
1. Moving
Exercise is good for you, and this is proof. It doesn’t matter how you choose to move. What matters is that you start doing something. Dance, run up and down the stairs, take a walk, use light weights, swim, ride your bike, go to yoga, play tennis, do jumping jacks, get out and get a little exercise.
2. Breathe right
You’re breathing right now, but to take charge of your lymphatic system, you should sit quietly and practice deep diaphragmatic breathing. You simply breathe in deeply through your nose and hold it for a count of four. Then exhale from your mouth for a count of two. You can increase the time as you get better and better at it. Use essential oils like peppermint, eucalyptus, or doTERRA Breath Blend to help support open airways for better breathing ease.
3. Go on the rebound
Well, the rebounder, that is. A rebounder is a small trampoline, and it’s fun to jump on to get your blood pumping. Vertical movements seem to be incredibly useful for getting your lymphatic system moving. This has become my Netflix indulgence time. I don’t watch much TV, but lately, I have been allowing myself 30 minutes to watch and jump at the same time. No trampoline? No problem! You can run in place, jump, do jumping jacks, bounce, or even dance.
4. Dry-brush your skin
When you dry-skin brush before you shower in the morning, it helps release toxins that build up while you’re sleeping. When using a dry brush, use long gentle strokes. Start with your feet and work your way upward, working towards the heart, avoiding sensitive areas like breast tissue. It shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes every morning to brush
away the toxins from the night. Use a natural-bristle brush for the best results. You can add essential oils diluted with your favorite carrier oil to enhance your results further. Geranium is an excellent oil for adrenal support and may reduce the puffy appearance of the skin. Citrus oil, cedarwood and cypress may help with circulation.
5. Self-massage
Self Massage is a great way to increase lymph flow and simply give yourself some love. In Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of health and wellness, this daily massage practice is known as Abhyanga. Ayurveda teaches that a daily routine is essential to help align our bodies to nature’s daily rhythms. Essential oils can aid in stimulating and detoxifying the lymphatic system. I love to use citrus oils and some wood oils. Besides how they promote the flow, the smell is fantastic!! When massaging to improve lymphatic flow, use a gentle light touch. You don’t want to press so hard. It is recommended to use long strokes along the limbs and circular motions on the joints. Remember always to use a carrier oil, coconut, jojoba and almond are my favorites when massaging essential oils on your skin.
