Tap Your Way to Health
Have you heard of “tapping” also known as the emotional freedom technique (EFT)? I first learned about this practice while in my health coaching program. I was intrigued and ready to learn more, having always believed in acupuncture and acupressure as modalities to help us heal. As I began to look into the tapping process, I learned that many of my mentors, such as Dr. Hyman, Deepak Chopra, Doctor Oz, Dr. Axe, Dr. Pompa, Jack Cranfield, and Tony Robbins (the list is long), use and teach EFT to their clients. These famous physicians understood there is a connection between our inner dialogue and our physical health. In addition to the inner dialogue, using specific meridians while making specific statements can shift what is happening in the body. Tapping on the meridian points is somewhat similar to acupressure. There are many YouTube videos for particular issues. There is even information on incorporating essential oils into the process for added benefit.
Here is the basic technique:
Once you identify your struggle or problem, focus on the negative emotion at hand. While maintaining your mental focus on this issue, use your fingertips to tap 5-7 times each on 9 of the body’s meridian points. Tapping on these meridian points – while concentrating on accepting and resolving the negative emotion – will access your body’s energy and restore it to a balanced state. An estimated 10+ million people worldwide have used tapping.
The best way to learn tapping is by watching it being done. Here, Nick Ortner, founder of The Tapping Solutions, models how it is done.
Since tapping is a way to connect with the amygdala, the brain’s center that connects with emotion, it only made sense to me to add essential oils while tapping. Using Aroma while tapping combines a direct physical action (tapping) with aromatherapy and positive affirmations to shift your mental and emotional state powerfully. This helps you use the connection between scent and emotions to anchor your thoughts and feelings to improve your life. The best part? You can use this technique anywhere, anytime!
