Toxin Overload
In an ideal world, your body is designed to detoxify itself as it was intended to do. Our liver, kidneys, colon, respiratory system, blood, lymph, and skin are all designed to keep toxins at bay. However, with over 80,000 chemicals in our environment – many of them untested – our bodies are exposed to more than it was designed to handle.
So, what is a toxin? A toxin is a substance that can potentially poison the body and can possibly create harm or have an adverse effect on the body, including disease and imbalances.
Having a buildup of toxins in the body can create a feeling of low energy or fatigue, headaches, body aches, bloat, and heaviness. Toxins can lead to weight gain, diabetes, cancer, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and many other diseases.
So what is a person in 2020 to do with so many toxins flying around?
First, we can minimize what we are exposed to.
Replacing our cleaning and self-care products with non-toxic alternatives. If you are cleaning with products that have warnings all over the label, maybe it is time to rethink what you are using! If you are slathering yourself with products that contain synthetic fragrances, parabens, petroleum, and things you can not pronounce, maybe it’s time to rethink what you are using!
Skincare what you are putting on your skin goes into your body!
Top items to avoid:
Parabens
Fragrance
Phthalates
Triclosan
Sodium Lauryl/ Laureth Sulfate ( also seen as SLS or SLES)
Formaldehyde
Toluene
BPA
Dioxin
Atrazine
PFC
Second, we can support our body with herbs and essential oils that can help our system’s ability to do our job. Adding them to rituals like skin brushing, oil pulling, and massage.
Essential oils can be used 3 ways:
- They can be used aromatically, the scents can affect mood and affect our limbic brain, the center for memory and emotions. This can be accomplished by putting a few drops in your hands, using a unique diffuser, or adding oils to a spray bottle to help disperse their scents. Beyond just sent with the correct diffuser, the oils can be suspended in the air to improve air quality.
- The oils can be used topically. Once again, it must be noted that not all oil brands are created equal, and not all can be used directly on the skin ( learn from an expert). Topical oils can be an excellent way to support healthy skin and to soothe areas of discomfort.
- Essential oils can be used internally. For safety and effectiveness, only the purest oils should be ingested. Once again
